The Pines Retirement Home is a non-profit charitable organization established to provide residential accommodation for the elderly, primarily to meet the needs of independent elderly citizens during their retirement. Over time the emphasis has moved to the provision of nursing care in response to the needs of the community and the high care requirements of many of its residents.
The two-storey structure of approximately 15,000 square feet (7,500 square feet per floor) can accommodate 50 residents, and with the addition of the facilities included in the existing building, the total size of The Pines Retirement Home is approximately 35,000 square feet.
The new building is equipped to withstand hurricanes via its design, standing-seam roof, and back-up power generation.
