Cancer care in Cayman

A diagnosis of cancer can be an overwhelming experience for both patients and their loved ones. It brings a range of emotions along with many questions and concerns, including options available on-island.

In Cayman, there are several facilities offering cancer treatment and support services, including a new radiation oncology facility, the Gene Thompson Radiotherapy Centre.

Health City Cayman Islands

Health City Cayman Islands opened its state-of-the-art radiation oncology centre in Camana Bay in March of 2023. Described as a transformative moment in the delivery of cancer treatment in the Cayman Islands, the new facility, which features the latest in medical technology, allows patients and their families to receive treatment at home rather than travelling abroad. The centre is the first such facility for the Cayman Islands, providing greatly expanded treatment options, including medical oncology, surgical oncology and radiation therapy, in addition to offering bone marrow transplants. The treatment facility is named the Gene Thompson Radiotherapy Centre, in honour of one of Health City’s founders, who passed away earlier in 2023. The new building completes the first phase of Health City’s US$100 million, 70,000-square foot medical campus in Camana Bay. The facility serves as a complement and expansion to the current cancer detection and treatment capabilities offered in Cayman, and Health City works hand-in-hand with the Health Services Authority as well as private physicians to offer treatment to local patients.
